CSIG Associate Fellow’s Research Gains Recognition by the Council of the European Union

The Centre for Strategic and International Governance (CSIG) is delighted to

congratulate Associate Fellow Dr Ahmet Erdi Öztürk on the international recognition

of his latest policy research. The selection of his report, The Making of Turkey’s

Middle-Power Status: Resources, Agency, and Constraints, for inclusion in the

Council of the European Union Library’s Think Tank Review 143 (July 2026) reflects

both the quality of his scholarship and CSIG’s commitment to supporting

independent, policy-relevant research that informs international governance.

Originally published by the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy

(ELIAMEP), the report analyses Türkiye’s emergence as a middle power through the

interaction of strategic agency, national capabilities and structural constraints. Its

inclusion in the Think Tank Review places the research within contemporary

discussions on European security, strategic autonomy and the evolving international

order.

The Council of the European Union Library curates research for officials, diplomats,

policymakers and analysts engaged in European governance and foreign policy. Dr

Öztürk’s report is featured in the Foreign and Security Policy / Defence section

alongside publications from leading institutions, including the International Institute

for Strategic Studies (IISS), the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), the

European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), the French Institute of

International Relations (IFRI) and the German Marshall Fund.

For CSIG, this recognition reflects our Centre’s wider mission to promote informed

leadership, good governance and international cooperation through rigorous

research and expert analysis. By supporting scholarship that bridges academia and
